RUNNING: JONATHAN Metcalfe headed a field of 850 runners to win the Cheshire 5k on Sunday.

Representing MBNA, Metcalfe completed the Chester city centre course - which started and finished at the Roodee - in 17 minutes.

Chris Murphy, of Liverpool's Brookfield High School, was the first female finisher in 17 minutes, 45 seconds.

The first team to cross the line was from Dragons Health Club (Nick Burke, Ian Harrison, Paul Watson, Natalie Harmer), their time of 1:16.42 seeing them also claim the friends and family division title.

Chester City Council's sports development department would like to thank West Cheshire AC and the City of Chester Triathlon Club for providing race marshals; Dial House for providing refreshments; Hildon for supplying water to all finishers; Chester City Council district services, Cheshire Police and Cheshire County Council highways.

All those who took part were raising money for cystic fibrosis charities.
