CHESTER Racecourse was the venue for the North Western Area Point-to-Point Area Championship dinner and prize giving last Friday, attended by 150 supporters of the amateur sport, writes Beverley Dee.

The mother and son combination Vicky and Tim Park of Milton Green won no less than three of the awards.

Merry Path won Leading Horse and Leading Family Horse. After receiving the award, Vicky said: 'Tim and Merry gained confidence in each other as the season progressed and they were both enjoying themselves. We're very fortunate to have Merry Path. He's a worthy winner, we're thrilled and this award is for him.'

Tim, 20, was the Leading Novice Rider.

He said: 'I still can't believe it! At the start of this season I'd had one win and now I've won five point-to-point races and one hunter chase. The highlight has got to be the hunter chase win at Cartmel.'

Looking ahead to next season, Tim added: 'I'd like more of the same and look towards riding in hunter chases with Merry Path. Mum does a lot of good work, she looks after the horses at home.'

On receiving his award, Tim said: 'I've had two fantastic horses to ride. Merry Path is enthusiastic and Springwood White has been a perfect schoolmaster for four seasons.

'I'd like to thank the leading rider Richard Burton for his advice. I'd like to improve and he's such a good jockey, it helps to watch him.'
