CHESTER rower Chris Bartley was left dejected after his dreams of winning a World Championship medal were dashed.

The Great Britain star clinched his place in the event held at Dorney Lake, Eton, after winning gold in the Under 23 World Championships alongside Richard Chambers in July.

But the duo returned home empty-handed from the senior event after finishing sixth in the lightweight pairs final.

of Farndon, said: 'Chris was obviously very disappointed. He had hoped that they would finish in the medal positions but they just didn't have a good row in the final.'

The lightweight pairs duo had looked set to make a big impact in the competition after winning their first heat and finishing second in the semi-final.

Geoff added: 'They were particularly frustrated by the fact that, in the final, they finished behind the German and Italian crews who they had previously beaten.

'It wasn't the result they were hoping for but Chris is still confident in his ability and he wants to continue rowing for Britain when the Regatta season gets underway again.'

Former King's School pupil Chris is currently in France rowing for Nottingham University in the European University Championships.

His dad Geoff admitted Chris and Richard did not perform to their potential in the final at Eton.
