MEADOW Bank ignored the conditions and produced good results on the River Weaver on successive days, writes JOHN STUBBS.
Though the river was already running high and fast on Saturday, it still needed more than 20lb to win Meadow Bank AC's own match and the following day - for Rudheath SC's fur and feather - 12lb-plus was required for first prize.
Three pegs in a row took the spoils on the Saturday. They were occupied by Timmy Wright 23-1-0, Sam Egerton 19-6-0 and Dave Booth 12-7-0, though it has to be said most of the others struggled for a bite.
Reg Evans won Rudheath's 27-pegger with a couple of bream and skimmers weighing 13-4-0. Richie Mainwaring 12-3-0, Stuart Brown 11-10-0, Andy Hamlett 11-6-0 and Wright again 8-0-0 were placed and section winners were Kev Simpson, John Sudlowm, Terry Kettle, Ally McLeod, Graham Evans, Jimmy Young, Larry Bates and Mike Scott with the river still high and coloured.
Peter Knight won the last match in the Barnton-Frodsham AC's Brown Cup series, but Steve Walker pipped Peter Moore to the trophy.
Knight caught 7-5-5 on the middle cisterns. He only had two bites and missed one of them. But he held on to a carp and beat Alan Forster 4-5-8 (over 60 roach, rudd, perch and skimmers) and Mike Appleton 4-4-6.
Walker's 118pts held off Moore 117, Forster and Arthur Kenney, both 116, overall.
Pinkie and maggot was the winning method on Heesom's Pool by both Barry Owen and Stan Butterworth.
