JEFF McQueen steered West Cheshire AC’s men to victory at the fifth round of the Borders Road Running League.

The over-40 veteran clocked 29 minutes 36 seconds on the 5.2-mile course at Mold to merit 15th position and guide his club to top spot in the men’s team race.

Jeff Kettle provided support in 21st place in a time of 30:01, ahead of Andrew Clague (31st in 30:41), Andrew Starkey (37th in 30:58), Ben Rees (54th in 32:02), Max Woods (80th in 34:25), and all-important seventh team counter, Neil Atkinson (82nd in 34:34).

McQueen and Clague are now second and third respectively after the fifth round in the individual standings for the over-40 men’s age group. Starkey leads the over 45 men’s race standings overall.

Paul Price was West Cheshire’s next finisher, clocking 34:51 for 87th position, ahead of Chris Rhodes (91st in 35:00), Dave Tiernan (93rd in 35:09), Richard Batterham (104th in 35:53) and Julian Clark (106th in 36:04).

Sacha Kendall-Woods was first home for West Cheshire’s ladies, producing a time of 41:21 for fifth spot in the over-35 ladies race and 38th ladies position overall.

Kendall-Woods is now lying fourth overall in the over 35 ladies standings after five rounds.

She was backed up by Julie Wood (13th senior lady, 43rd lady overall in 42:10), who is now seventh overall in the ladies standings after five rounds.

Lisa Ayling finished 10th in the over-35 ladies category and 54th lady overall in 44:12, and has now earned 12th spot overall in her age group with two races left.

Kath Osborne (third over-60 lady and 64th lady overall in 48:22), is now third overall in the over-60 age group after five rounds, while Leslie Billingsley (11th over-40 lady and 65th lady overall in 48:31), has moved into 13th place overall in the race series for over 40 ladies.
