BIATHLE: TALENTED all-rounder Matthew Fisher has earned selection for Great Britain in a little-known sport.

Biathle, which is part of the modern pentathlon, consists of a 1,000 metres run and a 200m swim, followed by another 1,000m run.

Matthew, 14, of Saighton, will compete for his country at the World Cup Biathle Championships in Monaco in September.

A pupil at Christleton High School, he is keen on athletics, football and swimming and has been a member of the City of Chester Swimming Club since he was nine.

His decision to combine swimming and athletics prompted him to join Chester Tri Club, and he showed his ability by winning the North West triathlon title which helped him gain selection to the World Class Start Programme for triathlon.

He has a string of sporting achievement to his credit, including representing Cheshire at cross-country, the 1,500m Chester schools' title for the last three years, the North of England Biathlon championship and f ifth in the British f inal, and winner of the British Schools Year Nine biathalon team title with Christleton High School.

His busy sporting life is expensive, though, and he is seeking sponsorship for Monaco and his triathlon activities. Anyone wishing to help should contact his father, Stephan Fisher, on 01244 341249.
