TWELVE students from Richard Saunders School of Taekwondo successfully passed their black belt grading in the Korean martial art.

Bryan Chatten, Alan Morgan, Stuart Harper, Janet Spriggs, Thomas Arthur, Mike Orford, Mathew Thompson, Melissa Every, Matthew Bowen, Ben Reilly, John Windrum and Michael Spriggs travelled to Bristol to take their grading under the watchful eye of five 7th Dan taekwondo masters.

After many years of training in the art the students had to perform their skills in patterns, self defence, sparring and a theory test.

Coach Richard Saunders, himself a 5th Dan, said: “All the students performed exceptionally well.

“We had a variety of ages and abilities who took the grading, our youngest being Matthew Bowen who is eight and has been studying the art since he was four, who passed his 1st Dan.

“At the other end of the scale Alan Morgan is 54 and was successful in passing his 3rd Dan. Alan and Matthew are a great advert in showing that all people whatever your age or ability can succeed and enjoy taekwondo.”
