MARTIAL ARTS: WEST KIRBY Tae Kwon Do travelled to Alfreton leisure centre to compete in the North Midlands Area Championships for the third year running recently.

There were 500 competitors in the competition from 58 clubs. West Kirby had finished 11th in last year's comp, so they were out to improve on that result.

It may have been the hottest day on record, but WKTKD remained cool under pressure as they proved to the North Midlands area that they meant business and, out of the 17 students that took part 15 of them won medals, some in two events.

That resulted in WKTKD finishing fourth, which in itself is a tremendous achievement for such a young club.

Instructor Jason Rodd said that the club's success was due to the hard work and commitment of his students before and during the event.
