TRIATHLON: THE biggest pool-based triathlon in the North West will take place at Nantwich this weekend.
More than 650 eager competitors have signed up to take part in the Cheshire Triathlon at the town's Barony Park and the Snow Hill open-air swimming pool on Sunday.
They will be bidding to run, cycle and swim their way to glory in one of the most gruelling athletics events on the sporting calendar.
But a relay event and a fun triathlon are also on hand to allow everyone to take part.
Event director Keith Hancock said: 'There will be a good standard of athletes taking part and it will be an excellent spectacle for onlookers.
'The running and swimming will be easy to watch while the bike course takes in the fantastic countryside of Cheshire.'
The popular main sprint event, beginning at 8.30pm, comprises a 500-metre swim, a 20-kilometre bike ride and a 2.5k run. The relay will be run over 5k and the fun triathlon includes a 200m swim, a 20k bike ride and a 2.5k run.
The event has been organised by Excellent promotions, run by race director Vic Bickerton, while assistance has been provided by Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council, Brine Leas School and Malbank School.
The Rotary Club of Nantwich will be collecting money for local charities on the Barony car park.
Mr Hancock added: 'We are still looking for volunteers to help out during the event, anyone interested please e-mail me on email@example.com.'
