ATHLETICS: HALTON and Frodsham Harriers opened their Indoor season on Sunday with fine first-round results in the NW Sportshall League at Kingsway, Widnes.

The highlight were victories for both U13s teams.

Meggie Parry, Aoife Haymer, Amelia Connor, Claire Perry and Charlotte Leiser starred in a small but quality girls' squad.

Amelia (26.2 secs) and Meggie (26.9) won their two-lap races. Other results: Standing long jump: Amelia (second, A, 2.15m); Aoife (second, B, 2.06m); vertical jump: Meggie (second, A, 38cms); Charlotte (second, B, 36cms); Speed bounce: Aoife (first, A, 84) and Claire (second, B, 73).

Meggie, Aoife, Claire, and Amelia won the relay in 1:47.7.

The U13 boys started out in the two-lap races through David Tomalin (second, A 26.9) and Matthew Brennan (third, B, 28.1).

Mark Coman was third over six laps (1:37.6) and Nathan Dawson the B winner (1:38.7).

Nathan (2.21m) and Mike Fryer (2.09) triumphed in the standing long jumps.

Standing triple jump victories came from Mike Fryer (6.24m) and Marcus Vernon (5.63m).

In the shot putt, Johan Curzon was the second-placed A thrower in 6.20m and Nathan Dawson runnerup in the B (6.02m).

Marcus, Matthew Gabbott, Mark, and David were the victorious relay quartet in 1:49.3s.

The U11s girls finished third. In the two-lap sprints, Annabelle Rogers (30.2 secs) and Jess Wright (30.6) had third places.

Rachel Blount was third in the four-lap events.

In the standing long jump, Emma Nelson was third A-stringer with 1.82m and Rachel Blount second in the B (1.72m) whilst Annabelle Rogers was fourth in the A.

Chest push third places went to Hannah Marsden (A, 5.50m) and Holly Bousfield (B, 4.75m).

Annabelle, Rachel, Amy, and Emma were relay runners-up (1:58.9).

Standing triple jumpers were Jack Nichols (first, A, 5.02m) and Joe Firth (2nd B, 4.84).

Chest push results: Luke Dawson (2nd, A, 6.50m) and Jack Nichols (1st, B, 6.00).

Max Butler, James Crosby, Jack Nichols, and Matthew Blount were third in the relay (2:01.3). nThe next match is at Macclesfield on October 23.
