FISHING: ROD N' Reel put in an improved performance in the Heronbrook Fishery Spring League on Sunday, finishing fifth on the day to move up into 12th place.

Lenny Bolton led their efforts with 21-0-0 of carp while Geoff Grantham took a mixed 19-8-0 and John Woodrow had a carp-based 17-12-0.

All weights taken had to be earned in Saturday's Wirral Borough Council AC match on the Offa's Dyke pool, with Kenny Stuart winning the day with a 2-8-0 roach and skimmers mix while Graham Aveyard had 2-6-0 of roach and Keith Williamson took 1-10-0 of roach and crucians.

Willaston AC were again midway in the placings in Sunday's penultimate match of the Seacat Winter League on the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Maghull, finishing 10th on the day to put them 11th overall.

Phil Cross was their top weigher with 1-7-9 of roach while Charlie Smith took 1-6-0 of roach and Brian Wood 1-0-0.

Ellesmere Port members swept the board in Sunday's match on the Manley Springs Fishery, with Mark Davies leading the way with 7-12-0 of tench and bream, Brian Saunders taking 7-0-0 of crucians and Billy Bristow having 5-3-0 of tench and crucians.

David Grimes took top spot in the Rivacre AC match on the Blundell Fishery at Irlam with a net of hybrids for 12-7-0, while Ian Lloyd had 10-14-0 and Andy Fletcher had 10-10-0.

Two Ellesmere Port trout fishers made their mark last week at the Dearnford Hall Trout Fishery at Whitchurch, with Michael Owen tempting a fine rainbow weighing 9-3-0 to a gold-headed damsel-fly nymph and Carl Cox luring a 7-1-0 brownie to his 'F' fly.
