SAILING: GRESFORD Sailing Club hosted an event for GP14 class boats on the Flash on Sunday and racing started in a very light and fickle breeze, which seemed to come and go throughout the day, testing the patience of the helms and crews.

Alan Rogerson, with crew Harry Bainbridge, led the first race until the penultimate leg when a fickle little breeze catapulted Trevor Ward and crew into first at the finish line, followed by Les Tucker with crew David Hopkins. Rogerson had to be content with third spot.

Race two saw Ward take the top spot again after leading from the second lap onwards. Rogerson was second this time with Rodney and Emma Evans third.

There was a lack of wind for the third race, won again by Ward from Rogerson and Evans third.

Ward made a perfect start to the final race and rounded the first marker buoy first, closely followed by Rogerson and Evans.

Midway through the second lap the breeze started to pick up and Ward extended his lead a little and Evans managed to overtake Rogerson and pull away from him.

During the third and final lap, the second and third boats closed up on the leader, and it was any one of the three boats to take top spot.

Evans was first over the line with Ward just a whisker behind and Rogerson a very close third.

Final results - three out of four races to count: 1, Ward, 3 points; 2, Rogerson, 7 points; 3, Evans, 7 points; 4, Tucker 10 points; 5, Merle Cook 15 points; 6, Bob Lucking 16 points.
