ATHLETICS: IT'S one down and two to go for ambitious athlete Lauren Rowe.

Lauren retained her 300m hurdles title at the Cheshire Athletics Championship at Warrington.

The 15-year-old, whose father is from Widnes, bases much of her training at Pex Hill, where she works with her Bold Heath-based coach Tom Locke.

The next event for Lauren will be the Cheshire Schools Championships on June 12 at Macclesfield, where she will again be looking to repeat her victory of last summer.

However, veteran UK Athletics coach Tom said: 'Her main aim will be to qualify for the English Schools, to be held later in the summer.'

In 2003 - her first season of hurdling - Lauren finished second in her English Schools heat and seventh in the final, despite being at the bottom of the age group.

'Lauren has trained hard all last winter - twice a week on her home track at Warrington and during weekends on the inclines at Pex Hill,' added her coach.

Widnes' Helen Roscoe, of Sale Harriers, won the 400m title at the Merseyside Championships at Wavertree in 59.00 secs and was second in the 100m in 12.7.
