NEW skipper Andy Latham held his nerve for CHOLMONDELEY to secure a three-wicket victory over Weaverham in Division One - with only three balls to spare!

The visitors were put into bat first and posted a target of 163-9 off 45 overs (Ed Mason 4-58, Rich Cooke 2-32, Ben Briscoe 2-33) but the Chums bagged the points after reaching 164 thanks to fine efforts from Luca Heritage (22), Guy Ford (26) and Neil Thompson, who hit two fine sixes before handing over to captain Latham who stayed cool to turn away the all-important single.

ALVANLEY started their season with a home win over Wilmslow who were put into bat.

An aggressive opening partnership brought 67 runs off the first 14 overs and could only broken by a run out, thanks to excellent work by Mark Leadbetter.

Peter Pearce took five wickets as Wilmslow were restricted to 161-7 off their 45 overs.

In reply, Mark Szymura and Nick McKay played some beautiful shots to develop an excellent opening stand of 102 before McKay (47) was run out.

Szymura completed his half century and Alvanley completed the victory in the 41st over, reaching 155-6.

There was an exciting finish at Davenham, where TATTENHALL wrapped up victory with three balls to spare.

The hosts made a competitive 171-6 from their 45 overs, Mel Dobson the pick of the bowlers with 3-36.

In reply, a second-wicket stand of 90 between John Hope (62) and Mike Alexander (40) looked to be easing Tattenhall to victory, but a mini-collapse caused some unrest in the pavilion.

It was left for Winston Elliot (22no) to show some maturity and guide the team home to 175-6.

In Division Two, BARROW fell to a heavy defeat at Ashton on Mersey.

The hosts declared on 165-6 and Barrow were bowled out for 65.

WIRRAL'S match at CH Ladybridge was abandoned, with both sides picking up five points.

There was also no play at CASTROL in Division Three as the Ellesmere Port team had to forfeit their match against Over Peover because their ground was double booked.
