ATHLETICS: THE ladies team from Tattenhall Runners' showed their dominance in round three of the Borders League series at Mold on Sunday.
They won the day's Division One section by five points from Wirral and remain in first position overall.
Tattenhall's men were third in the Division Two section but retained second place overall to stay in the hunt for promotion.
Thirty Tattenhall runners completed the five-mile course and the men's team was led home by Simon Ellis, who was 45th in 29 minutes 44 seconds.
Andrew Gooda was next (68th in 30:.52) and he was followed by Steve Hammond (75th in 31:18), Justin Realff (77th in 31:24), Mark Smith (83rd in 31:37pb), Jim Walker (93rd in 32:13), Steve Powell (109th in 32:59), Dave Skyes (117th in 33:29pb), Chris Lamb (123rd in 34:03), Dave Oldfield (124th in 34:07), Nick Holmes (151st in 35:42), Dave Clarke (166th in 36:35), Geoff Cornfield (179th in 37:23), Dave Carnelley (193rd in 38:32), Peter Maddock (197th in 38:39), Peter Avery (223rd in 41:00).
The first counter for Tattenhall's ladies team was Marilyn Kitching, who was 79th in 31:29. She was the fifth lady finisher and the third in her category.
Sarah Hammond was 81st overall - and first in her category - in 31:35.
Other finishers were Helen Lester (155th in 35:57), Alison Smith (156th in 35:59), Veronice Roberts (160th in 36:19) and Laynie Stothart (162nd in 36:29), Grace Hart (196th in 38:39), Catherine Jones (221st in 40:49), Sara Atkinson (226th in 41:12), Marjoleen van Kralingen (227th in 41:13), Jean Walker (236th in 42:52), Jane Woodley (245th in 44:36), Tessa Swaine (249th in 46:16) and Lesley Clague (255th in 48:02).
West Cheshire AC's men and veterans retained top spot in their team competitions.
Graham MacNeil was the first club member home, finishing fifth in 27:18.
He was followed home by Dave Tiernan (ninth in 27:51), Gary Roberts (13th in 28:05), Ken Begley (14th in 28:09), Graham Jenkins (17th in 28:20), Paul Frodsham (18th in 28:28), Iain Wedge (28th in 29:08), Andrew Clague (30th in 29:10), Russell Kirk (39th in 29:34) and Graham Earlam (40th in 29:35).
Other finishers in West Cheshire's men's squad included Paul Price (56th in 30:18), Steve Parker (92nd in 32:12), Steve Lancashire (121st in 33:44), Dave Hough (129th in 34:20), B Gardner (132nd in 34:34), Brian Beattie (152nd in 35:46), and Mike Lamb (241st in 43:45).
Heather McLintock was West Cheshire's first lady home after clinching seventh spot in 32:45, ahead of L Parsons (10th in 34:29), Lisa Davies (20th in 36:11), Jules Bancroft (24th in 36:39), Laura O'Marah (28th in 36:52) and Frances Mudway (36th in 38:48).
Eighteen members of Helsby Running Club took part as their men's team tightened their hold on the improvers' trophy.
Richard Stradling was first home in 73rd in 31:07.
He was followed by Max Taylor in 31:46, Richard Mitchell in 31:53, Phil Gillard in 34:41, Mick Charman in 34:58, Andy Smith in 35:22, Graham Lloyd in 37:31, Kevin Bell in 38:06, Robbie Webster in 40:01 and Mike Collins in 47:17.
For the ladies, Carol Shaw was first home as the 25th lady in 36:40.
Helsby's other finishers were Rachael Browes in 36:47, Liz Dobson in 37:12, Steph Charman in 39:22, Holly Taylor in 43:23, Bev Roberts in 43:24, Lucinda Strudwick in 43:46 and Sheila Ryder in 46:55.
