VALE Royal AC stretched their lead over rivals when it came to women’s racing at the Cheshire Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

They provided the winners for the Under 15s, 17s, 20s and senior events – and there were plenty of other medals too.

Vale Royal’s Hoole-based British international Charlotte Roach won the senior race, with clubmate Karen Ellison running second.

Another with a national vest, Stevie Stockton, dominated the U20s, winning by three minutes. Rachel Clews was fourth.

Rebecca Craigie won the U17 race and, with Kathy Stringer and Kate Howard, she also shared a team gold – a feat repeated at U15s level by Megan Huxley. She had a massive 36-second lead at the tape and shared team glory with Lucy Whittick and Claire Perry.

Gavin Tomlinson came close to making it a seniors’ double for Vale Royal, but had to settle for silver as did Lewis Healey pipped on the line in the Under 13s’ event. He, Josh Boyce, Andrew Zimmer and Matthew Jarman collected a team silver.

Team gold and silver were claimed by U20s Chris Perry – who was third – Tom Heaword, Zach Cross, James Griffiths, Tom Bessant and Peter Cox.

There was another collective gold, at U13s, with Louise Towers, Hannah Bishop and Kate Moulds making up the team.

The club’s boys U11s were team bronze medallists.
