HOCKEY: CHESTER Ladies, already promoted to the National League, showed their class with a 6-2 win at home to York on Saturday.

They had a 4-1 lead at the break with goals from Debbie Roper, Michelle Daltry (2) and Pat Well (penalty), and even with the wind against them in the second half, they added two more goals through Sam Queck and Laura Millar. York scored a late consolation goal.

Chester seconds finished their season with a 3-0 defeat by Acton to finish in mid-table in Division One of the Cheshire League.

Chester fourths put out a strong side to face Oxton and won 2-1. Player-of-the-match Jenny Watters put them ahead and after Oxton equalised before half-time, Laura Merchant grabbed the winner.

Chester men's thirds drew 2-2 with Oxton fourths in their final league match of the season. Their goals were scored by midfielders Mark Harnden and Tom Selby.

Chester sixths mustered a scratch side against Winnington Park thirds and won 6-2 with only nine players. There were hat-tricks for Danny Hill and Craig Duffy. Deeside Ramblers Ladies were 2-0 down after only 10 minutes but stormed back to beat visitors Roseberry 5-4. Sarah Arden and Bex Clarke scored two each with Gemma Roberts also on target.

The seconds also went behind at Lancaster and although Sally Bell found the net, the hosts went on to win 3-1.

The men had nearly all the play against Kingston-upon-Hull but lost 2-1. Will Mumme-Young broke the deadlock with a well-taken penalty, only for Hull to level near half-time.

Hull stole the points on full-time when a free hit was deflected past Stuart Symms.

The seconds' 3-2 win over Oxton meant Mike Cope's side have beaten every team in the league. The goals came from Phil Brown and Ed Lowe.

Ramblers' thirds, already assured of promotion, chalked up 120 goals for the season as they demolished City of Manchester seconds 13-1. Steve Cooper led the rout with six goals, supported by Hedley Pollard (4), Justin Newboy (2) and Guy Fennell.

The Beavers' 13-match winning sequence ended when they were held 3-3 by Bowdon. They were two down after 10 minutes and 3-2 up with two minutes left. Ben Lamont scored all the Beavers' goals.
