SNOOKER: HALTON Sports & Social Club B, already Division Three champions, carved their name on the Team Knockout trophy after victory over RAOB C in the Widnes Snooker League's latest final.

Skipper John Edge anchored the HSSC team to victory and had the satisfaction of potting the winning ball to complete a successful season.

However, the campaign has not been without its high spots for runners-up Buffs, who finished a respectable third in Division Five.

Giving away 160 on handicap, the Halton Stadium-based winners eventually got home by 44 -although it was evident from the first two frames this would be a closely-contested tie.

Paul Goulden provided the early spark for HSSC B, rattling in a 32 break in an impressive 83-28 win against RAOB C skip-per Joe Mark.

However, youngster Mike Dicks claimed a surprise victory over Dave Hankin to keep the Buffs team in the game.

Trailing by 14 entering the second set of games, HSSC B served notice of their intent.

Sean Dennett continued with his semi-final form, rarely missing a ball, to win by 50 while Danny Naughton also scored impressively to leave the stadium side just two points adrift.

After an interval, Mark Anderson held his nerve to beat wily Buffs campaigner Wally Raley on the colours and it was left to skipper Edge to finish the job.
