ANGLING: VICTORY in the Hampton Springs Fishery open match on Sunday went to Keith Bean who drew a peg on the rock pool and landed 36lbs 4oz of carp in the 4lbs range.

The runner-up was Greg Roberts who had 32-4-0 of carp and tench with Steve Boyd third with 27-12-0.

Willaston Red slipped in Sunday's Liverpool Winter League match on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Maghull where they were seventh and dropped two places to fifth overall. Top weigh-ers were Peter Nelson with 4-3-0 of roach, and Pat Malloy with 1-6-7.

Willaston Black finished in the bottom half of the field and are now 12th in the table.

Their top effort came from Phil Harvey, who was third in the match, with 5-2-2 of roach.

Teddy Randles won the Grosvenor Estate AC pike match on Eaton Hall's serpentine with fish weighing 12lbs and 4lbs, both taken with dead bait. John Mort had a 13lbs pike and Norman Cadman landed a 7-14-0 fish.

Holt and Farndon AC fished the Dee at Holt where Frank Green was top rod with 19lbs of roach and chub. Reg Williams had 5-7-0 of roach, chub and dace and Alan Done had 3-8-0.

Willaston's Jamie Hughes won the Thursday open match at Lingmere Fishery with a 51-6-0 mixed bag from Dave Randles junior with 47lbs and Kevin Bradshaw with 28-10-0.

The Saturday open went to Dave Randles junior with a carp-based 27-10-0 from Alan Dewhurst's 25-12-0 and Chris Smith's 22-13-0.

Shaun Sandham was an easy winner of the Tarvin Sands AC match on home waters with 60-8-0 of carp. He also drew the golden peg and earned a £70 bonus. Phil Iball was runner-up with 8-2-0 of carp with Steve Roberts third with 8lbs of carp.

The Tuesday match at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall, went to Gary Chambers with 32lbs of carp from Sandham's 27lbs and Ellick Peters' 19lbs.

Chester Police Flyfishers went to Dearnford Hall Fishery where Fred Marsh won with a 3-8-0 brace of rainbows, beating Ian Wood who had a 3-6-8 brace, and Jim Fryer with a 3-5-8 brace.

FISHERIES NEWS Meadow: Bill Jones, of Ellesmere Port, lured a 5-8-0 rainbow to a black buzzer; Phil Burgess, of Frodsham, fished a white lure to take their best brace of the week with rainbows weighing 7-11-0 and 4-3-0; David Coombes, of Irby, coaxed a 6lbs rainbow to a black buzzer and Chester's Ian Rogers tempted a 5-2-0 rainbow to a damsel fly nymph.

Burton Mere: Bromborough's Gary Bough and Peter Price netted 112lbs of fish between them made up of carp up to 3lbs, bream up to 4lbs, plus crucians and tench taken with micro-pellet fished over pellets.

Milton Green: Peter Catherall, of Chester, netted a 2-8-0 perch and two carp up to 10lbs to maggot; Cyril Roberts, of Wirral, coaxed 30 carp between 1-8-0 and 3lbs using pellet or red maggot; and Keith Harris, of Wirral, bagged 25 carp to 1-8-0 to red maggot.

Lake Hill: Graham Price, of Little Neston, lifted their top fish of the week, a 16-5-0 rainbow using a toby spinner. Llandegla: Norman Sleightholm, of Wirral, found five rainbows up to 7-8-0 using worm and Norman Collier, of Wirral, coaxed five rainbows up to 3-8-0 to buzzers.

Dearnford Hall: Bill Partington, of Ellesmere Port, netted 67 fish over two days, the best a 5-4-0 rainbow taken with dry fly.

John Costaine, of Chester, fished a gold-headed damsel fly to take the best fish of the week, a 7-11-0 rainbow, and Chester's Mike Scott tempted a 4-2-0 brownie to a CDC shuttlecock.
