CYCLING: CHRIS Kain was the Weaver Valley star of the 12th road race of the League International series.
In the 18-39 section, Kain broke away on the first lap with two other riders and stayed clear right to the end of the 30-mile race. His sprint earned him second place.
Riding after a long lay-off was Simon Richardson, who had to be satisfied with finishing in the bunch.
Graham Gregory and Garry Brown contested the 40-49 category. Both missed the break and the sprint was for fifth place. Gregory went for it but was caught 50 yards from the line by the fast-finishing bunch.
Dave Daynes was second in the over-60s group and ninth overall. Chris Latta was in the over-50s bunch.
Carl Ruebottom was an impressive sixth in 1 hour 59 minutes, but clubmate Garry Brown was off the pace at 2 hours 9 minutes in the Manchester 50-miler in Goostrey on Saturday.
Sunday's club run is to Hawk-stone Park, Shrewsbury, from 9.30am.
