ST WINEFRIDE’S Primary dominated the Ellesmere Port Inter-Schools Football League, winning at a canter scoring 27 goals and conceding just three.

They picked up their medals and trophy at a presentation at William Stockton School. Special mention was given to keeper Jack Taylor and forwards Alex Gore, Dan Robinson and Tom Flookes who each scored four goals. Player of the tournament was Joe Hardy.

Organiser Andy Smith, a teacher at William Stockton, said: “We are already looking to arrange another one next year as it was so popular with the six schools who entered.

“I would like to see more schools come on board next time to give more youngsters a chance to play.”

Christ Church came second, beating third-placed William Stockton by one- goal difference.

The Oaks, Brookside and Parklands completed the line-up for the six-week competition.

Mr Smith reserved special thanks for the teachers who got their teams to the matches each Tuesday, the volunteers and referees who helped keep order and Vauxhall Motors for the use of their pitches.
