THE Premiership winners’ medal thrown into the crowd by a triumphant Jose Mourinho is the star lot at an auction of sporting memorabilia in Chester.

Bonhams, on Christleton Road, has a host of prized possessions up for grabs to the highest bidders on November 19.

The former Chelsea manager’s 2005-06 FA Premiership winners medal – caught by Chelsea fan and seller Sebastian Kayll – is expected to fetch between £18,000 and £22,000 when it goes under the hammer.

A medal awarded to the winning captain of the first ever World Cup in 1930 should attract even more money and is listed to sell for £25,000-30,000.

The medal was brought from Paris and delivered to the Uruguay captain Jose Nasazzi by Jules Rimet himself.

For cricket fans there is wicket-keeper Geraint Jones’ shirt from the day of England’s famous victory in the Ashes in 2005, signed by the England team and stained by champagne from the post-match celebrations. Its guide price is between £600-800.

Chris Hayes, at Bonhams sporting department, said: “It doesn’t look very good but that’s because it has champagne all over it.

“It was put in by a vendor who owned a pub and was friendly with Geraint Jones.

“It’s going to be a long sale.”

The sale takes place on November 19, beginning at 11am and expected to finish at around 4.30pm.
