JORDAN McCulloch could become the number one-ranked under 16 boy in Britain in January.

The Little Sutton tennis player won the Winter Final tournament in South Wales to place him fourth in the U16 rankings.

As long as he keeps himself ahead of those behind him for the next three weeks, he will automatically become the official number one.

According to the Lawn Tennis Association, Jordan, 15, is effectively number one now - as the three players above him are no longer allowed to play in U16 events.

They are all one year older so must spend the winter playing on the U18s circuit.

'Jordan is officially fourth as the rankings stand,' said a spokesman for the LTA.

'But the rankings do not fully conform to the tournament schedule.

'In order that the players who move up into U18 get a full winter season in their age group they do not take part in the U16s.

'As a result, Jordan is the highest ranked player in the U16s still eligible to score ranking points in that division and if he is still there in January he will automatically become number one.'

Jordan's dad Stephen said: 'This is great news for Jordan. He has worked hard to gain ranking points.'
