MOTOR SPORT: CRAIG Jones failed in his last desperate bid to win the British Supersport title at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

After a huge effort in front of 25,000 enthralled fans he finished second in the race and runner-up in the championship.

It was a stunning end to the season for Jones, 20, and the Northpoint Honda Racing team.

Now the Greenbank rider has the winter to mull over his future.

He revealed after the race he was 'looking to ride on the world stage' but did not say in what championship.

Jones qualified in fifth place at Brands Hatch, had a super quick start and was jockeying for the lead by the first bend.

He knew that he had to push for the win if he was going to be in with a chance of pinching the title from Leon Camier.

He fought tooth and nail on every lap with Ducati rider Stuart Easton but was unable to find a suitable passing manoeuvre on the young Scott. With Easton taking the win it hoisted him to joint third in the standings with Jones' teammate Cal Crutchlow.

Jones added: 'It's been a fantastic season with the Championship going down to the wire. It was a tough race. I gave it my all and I'm still very content with finishing second overall. It was a completely new bike for me this year and I had my work cut out to adapt to it.'
