Jenny Tinmouth has expressed her pride at being voted on to the Motorcycle Wall of Fame alongside some of the most famous names ever to have taken to two wheels.

Ellesmere Port racer Jenny, who competes as the only female rider in the MCB British Superbike Championship, was voted 12th by the public on the list of all-time greats, which included Barry Sheene, Carl Fogarty, Mike Hailwood and Evel Knievel.

The Motorcyle Icons poll was conducted online and the public were asked to vote from a list of 48 famous names. The top 20 now features as part of The Motorcycle Story display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire.

“It is a real honour to be named on the list alongside some real legends of the sport,” said Jenny, who was the highest placing female rider on the list, ahead of Maria Costello and Becky Cook.

“I’m delighted and very proud, especially as it was the public that voted for it. My family’s delighted as well. To be on a list with the likes of John McGuinness, Mike Hailwood and Carl Fogarty is just unreal.

“I’ve not had chance to go down to Beaulieu yet to have a look as the Superbike season has been so hectic, but I’m planning to as soon as I can.”

Chester-born Jenny, who holds the record for the fastest lap by a female rider at the Isle of Man TT circuit, cited four-time Superbike Championship runner-up Chris Walker and Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness, who was fifth on the icons list, as riders who she looks up to.

Thirty-five-year-old Jenny operates her own team as a single rider, TWR Honda, in this season’s Superbike Championship, making her the first female owner of a Superbike team in the competition’s history. She says that she hoped her achievements in the sport would help other budding female riders to continue to pursue their dreams.

“I get some great feedback from girls who race and that means a lot to me,” said Jenny, who also works as a mechanic at the Two Wheel Workshop in Ellesmere Port. “Hopefully if girls who have an interest in motorbikes and want to race see me doing well then that can inspire them to do it.”

After a solid start to the Superbike season, posting two 20th place finishes at Oulton Park in the last round and making the second round of qualifying for the first time at Brands Hatch in round one, Jenny is aiming to keep on improving when she takes to the Snetterton circuit on the weekend of June 14 and 15.

Jenny added: “Things have gone well so far this season and I just want to keep on building. We’ve made adjustments to the bike as Snetteron is a fast circuit, so hopefully I can improve again. I’m looking forward to it.”
