TRIATHLON: Chester's Jean Ashley clinched the ladies' national quadrathlon title after finishing second in the British championships at Bude in Cornwall.
She came out of the water seventh lady and gained two places on the 24-miles bike leg, despite high winds, steep hills and torrential rain.
The sun came out for the six-miles canoe race, but waves at one end of the canal made it difficult making the tight turns. A strong canoe leg put Jean into second place, which she maintained on the six-miles cross-country run.
This result, along with previous quadrathlons throughout the country, gave her the 2004 title.
At the club's annual prize-giving, Julian MacDonald and Tony Fisher were voted best newcomer and triathlete of the year respectively for their long-distance efforts.
Trophies were also presented to club champions Andy White and Jan Morgan, sprint champions White and Linda Worrall, long-distance champions Jeff Nagle and Worrall and summer league winners Rob Jones and Julie Webb.
