BASEBALL: HALTON Jaguars bounced back to winning form on Sunday with two excellent victories against Strathclyde Falcons at Linwood Park.

These bring the Jags' record for the season to 13 wins with only two losses so far and an almost certain place in the Division One Final Four event in September which will decide the BBF Division One National Champions.

In game one, the Falcons put the first run in the top of the first but did not register in the next two innings due to excellent pitching by Chris Hartley and tight defence.

Showing no sign of their nervousness from the previous week, Halton went ahead in the third.

First baseman Bryan Hulme doubled and advanced on two passed balls.

Bob Cherneskie's single scored James Leckey and Tom Warwick and Halton pulled away steadily, despite a solo homer by Falcons pitcher, Dave Finch.

This was the Jags at their best with infield hits being converted to outs and left fielder Danny Lloyd dismissing four. A minor Strathclyde rally in the bottom of the seventh had no consequence and the Jags were worthy 11-7 winners.

Game two saw another competent victory for Halton who put four runs on the board in the top of the first and kept the Falcons scoreless.

Another bunt single to Walton started the second well for the Jags with Walton, Leckey and Cherneskie all scoring.

Halton pitcher Nick Bustin hit a two RBI triple and recorded five strike outs in the game but again, most Strathclyde batters were dismissed by routine ground outs or caught fly balls.

In left field, Danny Lloyd held on to two, and Ben Sultana in right field held four. Again, Falcon's Dave Finch, sent one soaring over the fences for a tworun homer but Jags accrued steadily for a convincing 15-9 win.

On Sunday, Jaguars host Manchester A's in another double header (noon).

This Saturday the Polecats junior teams of Halton Baseball Club play Manchester Saints with the Bronco League game starting at 11am and the Pony League match at about 2pm.
