HOWIE Mainwaring was 'gutted' after a troubled weekend at Silverstone.

The 20-year-old from Frodsham lined up for the Krystal Racing team in the Superstock FIM Cup 1000 race but could only finish 20th.

Howie's problems began just one lap into free practice last Friday when he crashed his Yamaha R1 at Copse and destroyed the number one machine.

He qualified in 22nd on the second bike and, after making an electric start to Sunday's race, powered past six riders up to 16th spot.

But he was unable to hold off the charge from his better-equipped rivals and finished up 20th at the chequered flag.

He said: 'I'm really quite disappointed with that.

'I thought I could have done a little bit better out there.

'I'm gutted that I couldn't get a better finish for the team, but, in a way, 20th is better than nothing.

'If you look at it as being 20th in the world, it isn't too bad.'

Howie will be back in action later this month when the National Superstock Championship heads to Snetterton.
