EFFORTS are being made to resurrect the Kingsway Indoor Bowling League which failed to get back off the ground after the temporary closure of the Widnes leisure centre.

Various factors led to the competition folding after 15 years - the biggest being organiser Ray Worthington's inability to continue his duties due to ill health..

Now plans are afoot to save the league and a meeting will be held at Wicksten Drive Christian Centre in Runcorn on Tuesday, January 2 (1pm).

Teams interested in resuming bowling in week commencing January 8 should be represented.

Sue Lee, one of those involved with the rescue bid, said: 'The league has always been very popular with local people, attracting around 30 teams a season.

'We need to do something quickly before the season is lost and indoor bowling at Kingsway is lost.'
