GOLF: A MEMORIAL golf day in memory of a sports lover raised £3,700 for the British Heart Foundation, writes Cameron Fleming.

The event at Hawarden Golf Club was organised by family and friends of Nick Jones of Ellesmere Port who died suddenly aged 44 earlier this year.

He had been on holiday in Dubai with his wife Sue and a group of friends when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Originally from Mancot he had a passion for horseracing and golf and was a member of Hawarden and Padeswood & Buckley Golf Clubs.

He also loved skiing, darts and dominoes and had worked for a decade at electrical company MA Cooper in Sandycroft.

More than a hundred golfers crowded the Hawarden course in Nick's memory before taking part in an evening

with presentations, raffle, a disco and an auction.

His prized possession of a signed jacket by jockey Frankie Dettori raised £325 -with the winner presenting the sentimental item back to Sue.

She then personally handed over the mammoth cheque to Katy Woodington, manager of BHF North Wales Community Fundraising.

Katy said: 'It is a real credit to Nick that the golf day was so successful. Friends and family who organised the event would like to thank everyone who attended, donated prizes or helped in any way for their kindness and generosity in supporting them.

'A special thanks goes to Hawarden Golf Club for their support and contribution to the day.'
