A FORMER international hockey player is passing on his skills to the next generation of players in Chester.

Ali Ghazanfar has been coaching the girls team at The King’s School, offering them coaching tips and advice to help them build on last season when they won all three local tournaments at under 14 level.

Ghazanfar played for Pakistan in both the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 World Cup.

His impact is already showing, with nine girls picked to represent their county teams and one selected at international level.

Sarah Underhill has been selected for Cheshire U18s and the Welsh U18 squad, the second King’s girl to have represented Wales at U18 level.

Kate Coppack, Hannah Porter, Millie Johnson and Georgia Andrews represent Cheshire U14s, Annabelle Church and Kate Saunders at U15 and Siobhan Barnard and Alice Plews at U16.

Barnard and Church are part of the North of England development squad, while Alice Plews played in goal for the North of England in several international matches over the summer.
