A TEAM from Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club has won a county title.

The club’s under 12 girls became Cheshire champions in a competition staged at Altrincham.

The team, which included representatives from seven local schools, won their group stage and then went on to beat Chester in the semi-finals, before defeating Neston South Wirral in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw.

Skipper Emily Hill bagged the winning penalty.

Both finalists qualify to represent Cheshire at the Northern Regional Finals in Leeds in April.

The team’s success follows that of the Ramblers’ U14 girls, who last month secured a place in the regional finals of the EHB Challenge Cup competition, which takes place in Kirkby Lonsdale on April 14.

Deeside Ramblers Men’s 1sts lost 7-6 to second-placed Oxton.

The newly-crowned champions scored through Ali Ghazanafar (3), Tom Fernall (2) and Andy Trayner.
