CHESTER Hockey Club are preparing for the new season having narrowly missed out on the first Neston Mixed Summer League title.

They came up against sides from Oxton, Bebington and Neston during the tightly fought campaign, going into the final game high hopes of winning the league.

If Chester had beaten Oxton they would have claimed the title, but were unable to convert their chances into goals.

Chester finished second in the table, with two wins, two draws and two losses. They used 32 players, 17 female and 15 male of which seven players were new to the club. The team scored a total of nine goals and the high point was a 5-0 win over Neston.

Despite the team changing on a weekly basis, there were key members who helped ensure the club’s success.

They showed strong will and humour when faced with playing without the full compliment of 11 players in the side.

Pre-season training is now well under way and Chester Hockey Club are on the look out for new players. Anyone interested can contact ladies club captain Mel Coulson 07899 872525 melaniecoulson@hotmail.co. uk or men’s club captain Steve Hyden 01829 781294 shyden@ch39br.fsnet.co.uk
