THE bank holiday weekend saw Chester Hockey Club host its annual festival at the Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton. Š

Celebrating the event’s 30th anniversary, a record 27 teams from all parts of the UK and as far away as Northern Ireland entered.

Combining the sport with a fantastic social aspect, the tournament’s reputation was further enhanced.

The festival saw all matches played in the best of spirits with great hockey skills combined with the more unusual sights of teams playing with 60 year old sticks, playing in evening suits, various animal costumes and some interesting versions of the Haka.

Chillirun (Chester University old boys) were victors in the men’s section while Neston Cygnets and Sheffield side LBG shared the spoils after drawing the ladies final.

Gorgeous Remnants (Durham University old boys), who also picked up the award for the most sociable team, were awarded the wooden spoon for the men, while in the ladies event, Skegness were the recipients.

After a fantastic weekend of competitive hockey on the field, the fun continued off it with the social events culminating in Sunday’s fancy dress party with a superb effort being made by all those who attended.
