THE school which initially nurtured the talents of England hockey star Nicky O'Donnell is again making a name for itself in the sport.

Heath College have won the Halton Secondary Schools Girls Tournament for Year 7/8.

Thursday's tournament at The Bankfield High was organised by the hosts' school sport co-ordinator Simone Hands in conjunction with Halton Sports Development team and competitions manager Karen Drake.

The Bankfield, The Heath, Fairfield A and Fairfield B all teams played each other in 10-minute games umpired by hockey coach Joe Smith of Runcorn Hockey Club and two young sports leaders from The Heath.

The overall standard was very high, but there could only be one winner and The Heath won all three games, scoring 14 goals in the process with Fairfield A close runners-up.

The winners now qualify to represent Halton at the Merseyside Youth Games to be held at Litherland Sports Park, Liverpool, on Friday, July 6.
