ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC made a bright start to their indoor season.

The Chester and Ellesmere Port club's youngsters produced three team victories at their opening round of the North West Sportshall League at Deeside Stadium, Connah's Quay.

West Cheshire AC's Under 15 girls clinched success with a stunning exhibition of sprint relay running.

Sian Kelman, Daisy Flynn-Piercey, Shona Valentine, and Becky Grimes secured a four and a half points team win over second-placed hosts Deeside AAC.

Kelman had earlier won the two-lap A race with a blistering time of 23.0 seconds and bagged maximum points in the standing long jump with a best leap of 2.34m. Becky Grimes won the six lap A race with a time of one minute 23.1 seconds, with Kerry Riley clocking 1:22.9 for victory in the B race, and debutant Kate Titlow claiming a time of 1:29.6.

Kerry secured second place in the vertical jump with 47cm.

Ruth Pritchard hit 8.45m for victory in the shot.

West Cheshire's U15 boys produced a convincing victory in their team competition.

Matthew White steered the purple-vested squad to success with a victory in the six lap (1:15.8), alongside Louis Humphreys (first B in 1:17.9).

Michael Lyness finished second in the shot (9.02m) and also in the standing triple jump (8.02m). Matthew Pratt scored 76 for second spot in the speed bounce.

Abbie Kirk helped steer West Cheshire's U13 girls to success.

Kirk won her two lap (23.7) and her six lap (1:21.7), before anchoring the relay team of Leah Ferrie, Sam Galley, and Abbie Noble, home to victory.

Danielle Bentley hit 7.34m in the shot for second spot, while Leah Ferrie top scored with 95 in the speed bounce.

West Cheshire's U11 girls were just three points away from securing a hat-trick of victories for the girls' teams.

Jenni Potter (25.6) and Alice McMahon (25.8) were fastest in the two lap, Alice Jennings posted 54.9 in the four lap.

Alice Jennings, Jenni Potter, Alice McMahon, and Francesca Wright won the sprint relay.

West Cheshire's U11 boys Sam Pierre-Louis posted 24.3 for his two lap, and Joseph O'Riordan clocked 24.7, before posting 53.4 for top spot in the four lap.

Alex Jenkins top scored with 40 in the speed bounce, ahead of Sam Pickering on 35.

Fixtures this weekend include the David Lloyd 10k on Sunday from Stanney Oaks Athletics Track, Ellesmere Port (10am start).
