ATHLETICS: HALTON and Frodsham Harriers opened their track and field season with some outstanding results at a National Young Athletes match at Deeside Stadium in Connah's Quay.

Star of the show was Under 13 competitor Samantha Fraser, who produced Grade Two National Standard performances in winning the 70m hurdles and high jump to earn the accolade of athlete-of-the-match.

There were other grades awarded to members of Harriers' U13 girls' squad.

Amelia Connor won the 75m in 11secs, a Grade Three time, while Claire Perry was third in 12.4secs. Katie Baker won the 150m in 22.3secs with Meggie Parry likewise gaining a Grade Four in the B race in the same discipline.

In the 800m, Sam France had a Grade Three with victory in 2:47.4secs, and Sophie Walters got a Grade Four win in the B race (2:54.1secs).

Claire Perry and Katie Baker were the A and B runners in the 1,200m. Claire finished second while Katie won her event.

Aoife Haymer triumphed in the B 75m hurdles with a Grade Four time of 14secs. She also won the B high jump, clearing 1.10m.

Claire Perry produced a 3.02m long jump while Sam Fraser was third in the A event shot-put with 5.12m, while Katie Baker threw 4.97m in the B section. The girls rounded off with a fine 4x100m relay win, Amelia Connor, Claire Perry, Katie Baker and Meggie Parry carrying the baton.

Rachel Green was the only U15 girl competing for H&FH but earned valuable team points with a third in the 100m, fourth at 200m and third - with 2.79m - in the long jump.

The U13 boys were well represented. Matthew Gabbott and Nathan Dawson were the A and B competitors in the 100m, each finishing fourth.

David Tomalin and Marcus Vernon featured in the A and B 200m and emerged with third places.

In the 800m, David Tomalin was fifth in the A event, and Nathan Dawson took fourth place.

Nathan then long-jumped 3.54m for fourth place in the A competition while Matthew Gabbott was the second-placed B-stringer with 3.48m.

The U15 boys saw Tom Collins and Andrew Gibbons finish fourth in the A race and third in the B event, respectively.

Tom also partnered Danny Nelson in the 400m A and B, Danny was third and Tom second.

Danny ran the 800m, finishing third in 2:53. Andrew Perry was the 80m hurdler, finishing third in 17.5secs. In the field events, Andrew Gibbons threw the javelin 16.18m.

The long jump brought third places for A-eventer Andrew Perry (3.73m) and Andrew Gibbons (3.35m) in the B event.

The 4x100m relay squad were third in 65secs through Tom Collins, Andrew Gibbons, Danny Nelson, and Andrew Perry.
