ATHLETICS: HALTON and Frodsham Harriers opened their indoor season on Sunday with fine first-round results in the North West Sportshall League at Kingsway, Widnes.

The highlight were victories for both Under 13s teams.

Meggie Parry, Aoife Haymer, Amelia Connor, Claire Perry and Charlotte Leiser starred in a small but quality girls' squad.

Amelia (26.2 secs) and Meggie (26.9) won their two-lap races.

Meggie, Aoife, Claire, and Amelia won the relay in 1:47.7.

The U13 boys started out in the two-lap races through David Tomalin (second, A 26.9) and Matthew Brennan (third, B, 28.1).

Nathan (2.21m) and Mike Fryer (2.09m) impressed in the standing long jumps.

Standing triple jump victories came from Mike Fryer (6.24m) and Marcus Vernon (5.63m).

In the shot-putt, Johan Curzon was the second-placed A thrower in 6.20m and Nathan Dawson runner-up in the B with 6.02m effort.

Marcus, Matthew Gabbott, Mark Coman, and David were the victorious relay quartet in 1:49.3s.

The U11s girls finished third. In the two-lap sprints, Annabelle Rogers (30.2 secs) and Jess Wright (30.6) had third places. In the standing long jump, Emma Nelson was third A-stringer with 1.82m and Rachel Blount second in the B (1.72m).

Annabelle, Rachel, Amy, and Emma were relay runners-up (1:58.9).

James Crosby (fourth, 28.7) and Max Butler (fourth, 30.3) were the two-lap sprinters for the overall fourth-placed U11s boys.

Standing triple jumpers were Jack Nichols (first, A, 5.02m) and Joe Firth (2nd B, 4.84).

Max Butler, James Crosby, Jack Nichols, and Matthew Blount were third in the relay (2:01.3).

Rachel Wilson, Kirsty Garner, Zoe Andrew, and Rachel Green made up the U15s girls' team, who came fifth.
