OVERALL second places for the Under 11s girls and U15 boys highlighted Halton and Frodsham Harriers’ efforts in the first meeting of the North West Sportshall League season.

Hard-fought points gained at Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan set targets for the rounds to follow with performances key to places in next year’s finals.

The U11 girls did well, Jess Wright victorious in the four-lap race (51.6 seconds) and the A standing long jump (1.96m). B-stringer Annabelle Kitchen posted a valuable second place and two thirds.

Megan McEveley, with an A total of 39, was vertical jump runner-up as was Charlotte Davies (35) in the B.

Charlotte (3rd A, 5.75m) and Harriet Tomlinson (4th B, 3.75) registered in the chest push while there were speed-bounce second places for Jenny Pyatt (A, 46) and Georgia Massey (B, 38).

Jenny, Megan, Annabelle and Jess were second in the 4x2 lap relay (one minute, 44.7 seconds).

Robert McGeachie, James Crosby, David Hayes and Mark Deeprose made up the U15 boys squad. They rounded off in the relay with second spot (1:42.3). Robert (A, 24.2) and James (B, 24.9) were two-lap runners-up.

Robert had a splendid A six-lap win (1:20.4) while he and James gained triple jump and speed bounce second places.

David shot-putted 10m for second A points, Mark winning the B event (7.27).

Two-lap racers Emma Scott (4th A, 25.1) and Amy Pearson (3rd, B, 24.3) opened the fourth-placed U13 girls’ account.

In tougher six-lap events, Emma won the A title while Emma Pyatt (1:24.4) took fifth B. Emily Pearson (4th A) scored 43 in the vertical jump with Emma Crosby (35) taking fifth B points. Amy (3rd A, 78) and Kate Merrill (3rd B, 73) were speed-bounce counters.

The two Emmas, Emily and Amy, were third in the relay (1:39.9).

Over four laps for the fourth-finishing U11s boys, Jack Peacock ran 54.6 seconds (2nd A) and Will Parsons 57.6 (3rd B).

Ben Sutcliffe took fourth A long-jump points with 1.80m with Max Tonge (1.47) the equivalent B finisher.

Ben’s 4.96m triple jump was good for fourth A spot with B-stringer Luke Bratt third (4.60m).

Speed-bounce contributors were Will Fletcher (3rd A, 47) and Will Parsons (2nd B, 44).

Jack Peacock’s 5.75m chest push earned third A spot as did Connor Slater (5.00m) in the B-string.

Harry Stubbs, Ben, Will Parsons and Jack clinched fourth in the relay (1:46.1).

Matthew Hulse, Richard McGeachie, Jorge Peacock, Charlie Fletcher and James Baker were the U13s boys team – finishing third overall.
