BOXING: CREWE boxers are on course to raise more than £3,000 for charity after a sponsored sparring session.
Members of Crewe ABC were joined by Silverdale ABC boxers for the exhibition on Wednesday. The impressive demonstration of skills wowed the crowds and persuaded onlookers to dig deep in their pockets.
The event, at the club's Greystone Park base, has already yielded £450 with cash still rolling in. Added to the £239 the boxers already received in a street collection, and an estimated £2,500 from a Halloween Ball at Port Vale FC tomorrow night, the drive should easily top £3,000.
Organiser Dave Hillidge revealed the cash will go to Headway, a charity which helps brain injury sufferers and their families.
He said: 'We had around 30 boxers who sparred and we were really impressed with the support and generosity from the onlookers. They emptied their pockets.
'The Headway charity is close to our hearts as boxers as it is the organisation which helped Michael Watson after his injuries sustained in the famous fight with Chris Eubank. We hope the money helps.'
