SNOOKER: Darren Hancock, who plays for Middlewich BL, won the Clare Cup for the first time on Wednesday when he beat the previous holder, Castle Private stick Steve Moores, 3-1.
Hancock made a 44 break en route to victory in the Hyundai Mid Cheshire League's major tournament.
League secretary John Worwood said: 'It is good for the competition to have a different name on the cup. It creates interest.'
It was a cautious final with the first two frames taking more than 90 minutes.
Hancock played for Gladstone before moving to Middlewich three years ago, and his previous best performance was to reach the final of the Individual Handicap several years ago.
A good run in the Clare Cup has eluded him, but he claimed the scalp of top cue Martin Ryder and then proved unstoppable.
