BASEBALL: POLECATS U17s recorded a fine win in BSUK NW Pony League at Halton Field last Saturday.

Harry Mills gave up only five runs in his five innings of work to help the Polecats gain an 8-5 lead, including a two-run homer to first baseman Chris Taggart.

Coming on in relief after five innings, the maximum allowed to a Pony League pitcher, Taggart dismissed the Lions in the sixth with three strikeouts.

But he was unable to settle in the seventh, allowing the Cumbrians a tworun lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Robert Parmiter and Jonathan Pauls singled.

Chris Phillips reached on catcher's interference to load the bases for Harry Mills, whose fine double to right centre-field scored two to tie the game.

Third baseman Mitchell Cross singled to right field to bring in Phillips, whose run won the game, and Mills.

Harry Mills reached and scored on all five at bats with one double and two singles, Mitchell Cross had three singles, Chris Taggart with a two RBI doubles and a two-run homer and Alex Heesom two doubles.

Barnsley Strikers 20, Halton Jaguars 5

ON-FORM Strikers closed down the Jaguars' offence to take a win at Phoenix Sports in South Yorkshire on Sunday.

But Halton, with eleven wins to only two losses, still have one of the best records in British baseball this season and are on course for the National Division One playoffs in early September.

Sunday sees a double header at Strath-clyde Falcons in Glasgow.
