SWIMMING: HALTON Swimming Club bagged 26 medals at the Merseyside & District Junior League Individual Champion-ships.

There were some tremendous performances by their 13-year-olds at Europa.

William Warburton pocketed four terrific gold medals in the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, breaststroke and back-stroke.

The other gold went to his teammate Andrew Matthews in the free-style as Halton cleaned up the age group.

The two youngsters scored a great gold and silver in the butterfly and followed up with gold and bronze in the breaststroke.

Craig Garner once again gave everything in battling through to two silver medals in the 15/u breaststroke and freestyle.

The performance of the girls' 13-years age group proved to be just as solid.

In-form Katie Holmes followed up her Northern Counties successes, showing great determination to win the 100m IM, breaststroke and free-style events.

She went on to secure silver medals in the backstroke and butterfly.

Halton collected all the medals in the freestyle event as Sally Noble and Becky Tomlinson joined Katie on the podium.

Sally Noble added to the haul with bronze in the breaststroke while Becky did likewise in the butterfly.

Stephanie Mahoney comfortably won the open-age 100m backstroke and had plenty left in the tank to pull away in the second 50m of the 100m freestyle for gold. She also took silver in the IM and butterfly.

However, the medal wins weren't the only highlights.

Personal bests by a number of swim-mers maintained the club's high profile.

Adam Joseph and Adam Eustace both produced great swims throughout the competition and will soon be joining their team-mates on the podium if they keep up their progress.

The 11/u girls - Jessica Wainwright, Amy Anderson, Rebecca Reese, Sarah Steel and Loran Marnell - all worked hard and showed great improvements, as did Anna Navis despite giving away 12 months in the 13/u age group.
