A FIVE-STAR show from Halton swimmers helped Cheshire wrestle the Konica Cup away from holders Nottinghamshire.

William Warburton, Katie Holmes, Lucy Myler, Sarah-Louise Banner and Stephanie Mahoney all played vital roles in their county's success at Stockport.

City of Liverpool ace and Cheshire men's captain Craig Vormawah steered the team into an early lead, which was maintained by William and Katie in the junior medley relay.

Katie went on to win both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events while Lucy Myler was a key figure in the junior freestyle relay win.

Despite their early successes, Cheshire couldn't shake off determined attacks from Notts and Staffordshire, and for three quarters of the meeting, there was only one point in it.

A late rally from Cheshire sealed the win after William Warburton helped his junior 4x50 medley team to first place. Sarah-Louise Banner was again impressive in the sprint freestyle team, assisted by team-mate Stephanie Mahoney.

Ladies' team captain Abi Tetley of Winsford celebrated her 18th birthday with a great win as Cheshire held off Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire and North Wales for overall honours.
