Members of Saltney Gymnastics Club can look forward to the prospect of international competition after performing impressively in the Welsh Acro-Gymnastics Championships in Cardiff.

Seven gymnasts, Liam Robinson, Ciara McNicholas, Matt Scott, Amy Ryan, Frankie Benson, Georgia Place and Lillie Fisher,  have been selected to represent Wales in the Celtic Cup in Glasgow next month.           

Oscar Booth, Anna Boyne, Liam Robinson, Ciara McNicholas, William Lorenz, Sally Ryan, Joe Smith and Oliver Lorenz have been nominated to compete in the British Championships at Stoke on Trent at the end of May.           

The  Inter-Regional Competition in Southampton in May will see Saltney members  Kieran Guy, Libby Davidson, Skye Carberry, Evie Dougherty, Becky Hedley, Paloma Gioia and Megan Floyd representing Wales.

Meanwhile six Saltney gymnasts will be attending trials later this month to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Games. They are Frankie Benson, Georgia Place, Lillie Fisher, Beth Hallam, Danni Macready and Ella Barratt.

Head coaches Denise Bayley and Debbie Lavender say they were delighted with the club's strong showing in Cardiff,  in one of the top competitions in the Welsh Acro Gymnastics calendar.      

They said: “This year, as well as our experienced gymnasts, we took quite a number of younger gymnasts who had never competed in such a high level competition before.

"We were so proud of how they performed and were delighted that so many of them achieved medals. It’s encouraging to know that the future of the club looks very positive with so many young gymnasts now coming through to this high level."

Highlights included gold for Joe Smith and Oliver Lorenz in the Grade 2 Men's Pairs, gold for William Lorenz and Sally Ryan in the Grade 2 Mixed Pairs, gold for Liam Robinson and Ciara McNicholas in the Grade 3 Mixed Pairs and gold for Oscar Booth and Anna Boyne in the Grade 5 Mixed Pairs.
