ANGLING: THE Winsford Weaver Winter League came to a happy end for the Grange team, Rudheath's Ray Thompson and Barlow's Ian Shaw, writes JOHN STUBBS.

The Grange won the title with 120 points. Small Fry were runners-up after keeping Rud-heath at bay.

Thompson drew peg 200 and landed seven bream, skim-mers and roach for 20-10-0 and an easy victory.

But second placed Ian Shaw, who is a keen Winsford Veteran, was also all smiles after sealing the individual title with a 7-11-0 catch from 191.

Third was Andy Hamlett (Glow Worms) 6-12-0.

The Dave's of Middlewich team look likely winners of the Northwich Mini-League, though Saturday's winner came from another Dave's outfit, the Gold team.

He was Wayne Percival, who pulled 3-8-0 from peg 40 to beat the man on the next peg, Pete Leighton, by an ounce. Richie Mainwaring (Glow Worms) was third with 3-3-0 and his team won the day with a total 4-13-0 against All Stars' next best 4-5-0, with Dave's of Middlewich Gold third.

Peg 200 also helped Lionel Sheen to victory in the Winsford Veterans' fixture. His 9-3-0 beat Colin Abbott 6-4-0 and Geoff Tannier 5-7-0, while Brian Sproston 4-6-0 was best off the Red Lion section.

Steve Walker won the day, but the main honour went elsewhere in the final round of Barnton-Frodsham AC Amanda Lester Trophy on the Weaver's dredger length.

Peter Moore and Arthur Kenny shared the cup, Moore finished second but Kenney claimed a half-share by catching a one ounce roach and finished fourth.
