HOCKEY: RUNCORN'S Grange Junior will represent Halton at hockey for the Merseyside Youth Games.

The Latham Avenue school - Halton's sports school of the year at primary level - and Widnes' Ditton CE gave the opposition some stick as the two most-successful teams at the borough's qualifying tournament.

Eight schools took part at Brookvale Recreation Centre. It followed Halton Borough Council's sports development team joining forces with Merseyside Sport and England Hockey to deliver basic schools coaching and then develop team-play skills.

Other schools involved included Hill View, Pewithall, Weston Point and St Edward's RC from Runcorn.

The Merseyside Youth Games are at the Bebington Oval, Wirral, on Sunday, July 10.

Hockey coaching will continue for the two qualifying schools in the build-up to the event.
