GYMNASTICS: Bunbury's World, European and Commonwealth medallist, Beth Tweddle, had another injury scare last week.

She turned an ankle the day before leaving for Stuttgart to take part in the final Grand Prix of the year.

She had to withdraw from the beam, but went on to take the silver medal in the bars, behind France's Emilie Lepennec. World and Olympic gold medallist Svet-lana Khorkina came third. Beth has competed in four out of five Grand Prix this year, winning two and finishing second in the others. This was her final competitive event until March as she improves her routine in preparation for the Olympic Games in Athens next August.

Beth, 18, who was a guests at the BBC North West Sports Awards in Manchester on Monday, will be spending two weeks in a training camp in Austria in January. Beth's Liverpool Gymnastics Club-mate, Melanie Roberts, of Saltney, is making a good recovery from a serious elbow injury which has threatened her bid for a place in the Olympic squad. She has had a brace removed from her arm and is back in light training.
