ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC members produced a respectable performance at the Sutton Six 10k Road Race on Sunday.

In a record field of 325 finishers, Graham Jenkins was first over the line for the Port-based club, in 16th position overall.

He was followed by Andrew Clague in 24th with 36.51 and Russell Kirk with 38.05.

Matthew Broad was the main man in the U20s competition, with a time of 38.13 placing him in 43rd position, while Chris Essex Crosby deserves credit for his 67th position on his return from injury.

The first female member to cross the finish for West Cheshire was Laura O'Marah with a time of 44.53, to claim 148th place overall.

Ellesmere Port Running Club enjoyed some superb results with Steve Crowe securing ninth position in a pleasing time of 35 minutes, in front of club colleague Ian Cooper in 14th. Nicky Bird finished fourth lady in a time of 38.43 and collected the winning ladies' shield for the Cheshire Grand Prix Series of races.

Elsewhere, West Cheshire AC's U15 member Mike Lyness enjoyed success in the Sutton Six Fun Run. He ran a winning time of 9.07 to edge home ahead of club colleague James Ellis in 9.11.

Kerry Riley finished third overall with a time of 9.25, beating Alex Jenkins in 12th and Heidi Williams in 26th. n Fixtures this weekend include the North of England AA Road Relay Championships at Blackpool on Saturday.

West Cheshire AC has entered men's teams for the six-stage event at Stanley Park (1.30pm start) and ladies' teams for the four-stage race (noon start).

The first round of the North Wales Cross-Country League takes place at Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

West Cheshire AC will be represented by an U15 girls' team at the Young Athletes Road Relays at Sefton Park, Liverpool, on Sunday (12.30pm start).

And West Cheshire AC will be helping to organise the Chester Corporate Cup race from Chester Racecourse on Sunday morning.

The Flintshire 10k Road Race gets under way from Mold on Sunday (noon) on the same day as the Sandstone Trail Race from Duckington (10am) and from Beeston Castle (11am).

The Macclesfield Half Marathon comes under starter's orders on Sunday from Macclesfield Leisure Centre (10am start).

Entry forms are now available for next year's 25th Shell Four Villages half marathon which will take place at Helsby on Sunday, January 22. Entry is limited to 2,500 runners.
