UPTON-BY-CHESTER Golf Club has been shortlisted for the GolfMark Club of the Year Award.

The award recognises clubs with an outstanding record of working with juniors and beginners.

The Chester club has been shortlisted along with Garon Park Golf Club in Essex and Leamington & County Golf Club, Warwickshire.

They each have been visited by judges from England Golf and the winner will be announced at the 2013 County Golf Development Conference on Thursday, February 7.

The winner will receive a national trophy and a prize from sponsors Cobra Puma Golf.

The three finalists were among 20 nominated clubs which demonstrate their commitment to junior and beginner golf through their activities and approach.

A judging panel from the England Golf Partnership selected the shortlisted clubs. The assessment day at Upton was held last November and club professional Steve Dewhurst wishes to thank the three junior members from Upton-by-Chester High School and 11 pupils from Upton Heath Primary School who participated on the day.

This was made possible thanks to the voluntary effort and time from the club’s junior organiser, Jenny Turner.

The Oaks Club in Mollington is running ‘Golf For All’ lessons on January 14 (2pm), January 19 (11am), February 11 (2pm) and February 16 (11am).
